- That Michigan offers VirtualSites, which lets me remotely connect to a Windows machine with a boat load of software
Left my headphones at home, must work in silence at the library.
Evidence does indeed confirm that people adjust to both positive and negative changes in circumstances with surprising speed, and then promptly forget that they did so…Thus we find ourselves on a hedonic treadmill in which we strive for an imagined happiness that forever slips out of our grasp, beckoning us onward…
You have to buy a beverage. But if you aren’t there with a friend, you can’t go to the bathroom without taking your stuff with you, thus giving up your seat.
In the library I have been asking people sitting near me to watch my stuff, although I’m not sure whether all I get out of that is a false sense of security.
Also, why doesn’t AT&T give their wireless customers free internet access at Starbucks like they do with their wifi customers?

After some deliberation I have figured out my courses for this semester.
They are:
Evaluation of Systems and Services: the foundation class in user experience research. I am hoping to: get over any lingering anxiety about recruiting and initially approaching test participants, master the art of taking good notes during observation so I don’t have to rely on recording and reviewing so much, learn the formal methodology.
Choice Architecture: It looks like there will be lots of overlap with a class called “Making Decisions” that I took for half a semester at Brown, but hopefully this time I will be able to apply the principles to HCI issues, and learn probability in such a way that I don’t forget it right after the course is over.
Advanced Project and Social Computing Design: Until the first lecture of this class, I didn’t realize that “social computing” could mean something more specific than computer-mediated social interaction. So, obviously I have a lot to learn…
Cognition and the Environment: This is a class in the psychology department which has students from a bunch of different departments. I have been interested about environmental psychology ever since we had to read The Hidden Dimension for UC 152 at Brown, especially in the content of cities. I feel like I will need to try not to get too carried away thinking just about urban issues and forget to think about how the concepts might apply to interaction design.
